      Communications Assistant 

      35 hours per week | 12 weeks: Monday, June 10 to Friday, August 31, 2024 

       

      We are seeking a motivated individual to engage with our business and community members about our Chamber and business members through our digital platforms. Assisting Chamber members in creating their online directory profiles will be a key task during your employment and will involve connecting with existing, new, and prospective members in our business community. A passion for supporting community is key to succeeding in this role by building upon an existing community webpage that invites others to west Winnipeg; introducing them to our businesses and our community in which the Assiniboia Chamber serves.  

      To excel in this role, you will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have excellent people skills, good website building skills, and be comfortable speaking to the business community. We are a small (but mighty) office team of two, so working well with a team is a definite asset. 

       

      Duties and Responsibilities 

      • - Review and update Chamber website and associated sites that promote local businesses in the community of West Winnipeg 

      • - Update business members’ online profiles; assisting businesses with ways to improve how they are represented, and teach them the ongoing process using the Member Information Centre (MIC)  

      • - Assist in the marketing and promotion of the Assiniboia Chamber’s values and opportunities for business support and growth to current members (retention) and prospective members (new) 

      • - Nurture current Chamber membership and partnership relationships, and build new relationships with prospective Chamber member businesses and members of our community through phone, video and/or in-person visits 

      • - Work with the Marketing & Office Coordinator on communicating through the Chamber’s website on ways to support West Winnipeg businesses community 

      • - Assist at the 2024 Member Drive Golf Event: set-up, registration desk, hole sponsor liaison, other duties as needed 

      • - Assist with the 2024 mural project 

      • - Participate and support networking and events delivered to Chamber members and the community 

      • Represent the Chamber in a professional manner 

      • - Perform other job duties as assigned 

       

      Qualifications and Eligibility 

      • - Strong interpersonal skills that effectively cultivate relationships with Chamber members, volunteers, vendors, and community stakeholders 

      • - Ability to organize, plan and prioritize multiple projects at one time 

      • - Strong written communication skills 

      • - Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word; membership databases and design programs are a bonus 

      • - Having a Class 5 drivers license and a vehicle are a bonus 

       

       

       

      Note: This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs – applicants must: 

      1. - is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; 

      1. - is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and 

      1. - is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations. 

      *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents. 

       

      Hours of Work 

      General office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday; except on days of events which may require an earlier start or a longer day.
