    About Us

Grant’s Old Mill is a historic landmark and community gathering place in St. James, Winnipeg, dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Cuthbert Grant, the Red River Métis, and the early development of Manitoba. Operated by the St. James-Assiniboia Pioneer Association, the site celebrates the legacy of Manitoba’s first water-powered grist mill and its importance to local settlement, trade, and community life.

Today, Grant’s Old Mill serves as a place for education, cultural programming, heritage interpretation, and community events. Through partnerships, storytelling, and public engagement, we work to connect residents and visitors to the history of the land, its people, and the region's shared heritage.

As we look to the future, we are committed to rebuilding, preserving, and enhancing the Mill and the surrounding green space so it can continue to be a welcoming place for learning, gathering, and celebrating community for generations to come.
